Here is what the press reported:

“I encourage all Southwest Employees to meet the federal directive, as quickly as possible, since we value every individual and want to ensure job security for all.”

"Failure to comply with this policy will result in termination of employment."

This mandate was dropped like a bomb on the employees. It couldn't have come at a worse time....It shouldn't have come at all. No jab-No job-No LUV.

The beloved patriarch of Southwest, Herb Kelleher, said:

"Your employees come first. And if you treat your employees
right, guess what? Your customers come back, and that makes your
shareholders happy. Start with employees and the rest follows from
that."

Does firing thousands of your employees during the holidays sound like Herb's vision? The vision that made Southwest Airlines the most successful airline in history?

Southwest Airlines gave America the “Freedom to Fly.” This Texas Airline has long valued freedom. Your dedicated employees will not abandon that sacred heritage in favor of government contracts worth a few percentage points of revenue. We owe fellow Co-hearts, loyal Customers, and future generations of Americans more than that.
