Stop GE's Divisive Vaccination Tactics

GE is segregating their staff by vaccination status at their Appliance Park in Louisville.

Mr. Fritz,

I have copied you on this email as I feel it is important you hear what your customers and community are saying.

It has come to the community’s attention that you have made a regrettable decision to mark your staff as vaccinated or unvaccinated for mask status.

The masking and marking of employees is still divisive. Take the amount of emails you are receiving as indication of this. Many companies have chosen to unmask their employees completely and have received no backlash. Only the companies who have decided to adopt policies such as your own have received a negative response. It would seem wise to remove the policy all together.

As a customer—and more importantly as a member of the community you hire from—this is very concerning. I’d like to point you to the recent decision to lift the mask mandate for all Kentuckians as the first indication that this is an unnecessary a divisive step. Vaccination should be a private decision and shouldn’t have any bearing on how an employee is treated. I would also like to reference the recent ruling in Boone County by Judge Brueggemann. In this case, he listened to all the facts and studies presented by both sides. Notably, in his decision, he states that after looking at the science, “wearing a mask to stop Covid is like putting up a chain link fence to stop mosquitoes.”

The state, the courts, and the scientific community through multiple studies have concluded masking is unnecessary at this point. This has become a divisive and political marker during these times. We want to be able to come together as a state, and as long as there are visible markers that can be construed as a political signal, this becomes more difficult. We would appreciate if you join the community that you are partnered with by removing these visible political markers of a person’s health history and instead bring us together in unity.

I’m sure as GE appreciates the ability for people to freely choose to buy your appliances and other products, you can also appreciate an individual’s right to make a decision that works best for them without discriminating against them for that choice.

I look forward to seeing a change in your vaccination status marking policy.
